Buick Crankshaft Sensor Replacement Instructions

The process to interchange the crankshaft place (CKP) sensor on many Buick models is fairly involved, since you have to take away the drive belt and balancer/pulley from the crankshaft. 9. Detach the balancer/pulley from the crankshaft using tool No. J-38197-A (harmonic balancer puller) or an equal pulley puller (see Sources for extra information). Use the 1/4-inch bolts that come with the software to put in the puller on the balancer/pulley meeting, and screw the bolts 1 1/four inches into the pulley.
10. Unscrew the three mounting nuts from the crankshaft place sensor (CKP) defend using the ratchet, ratchet extension and socket. Then take away the shield. Some Century models do not need this CKP shield.
11. Unplug the CKP sensor electrical connector. On some Century models, you will need to remove the CKP sensor harness-retaining clip before you can unplug the sensor. Use a ratchet and socket, and make an observation of the harness routing for proper installation.
12. Unscrew the 2 CKP-sensor mounting stud bolts using a wrench or ratchet, ratchet extension and deep socket.
13. Remove the CKP sensor from the vehicle.

Buick Crankshaft Sensor Installation Instructions

1. Install the CKP sensor, and tighten the mounting bolts utilizing the ratchet and deep socket.
2. Plug the CKP sensor electrical connector. If you have a Century mannequin with the sensor mounted on the facet of the engine, you can lower the car now and reconnect the black (ground) battery cable using the wrench. Otherwise, continue with the remainder of the steps.
3. Set the crankshaft sensor protect in place and tighten the three mounting nuts using the ratchet, ratchet extension and socket, in case your Buick mannequin is equipped with this shield.
4. Set up the balancer/pulley on the crankshaft, and tighten the bolt utilizing the ratchet, ratchet extension and socket. Ask a helper to hold the flywheel using tool No. J-37096 or equivalent as you tighten the bolt.
5. Install the splash protect cover utilizing the ratchet and socket.
6. Set up the wheel/tire assembly, and tighten the wheel lugs sufficient to carry the wheel firmly in opposition to the wheel hub using the lug wrench.
7. Decrease the automobile and end tightening the wheel lugs.
8. Install the drive belt following the directions in your automotive owner’s manual.
9. Reconnect the black (floor) battery cable using the wrench.
10. Perform the CKP system variation study process using a scan tool. Consult your automotive proprietor’s guide for the proper instructions on your explicit model.
